Why use Google Analytics
Reports generated by using Google Analytics are great tools to learn about your website and visitors using it. As a marketer, Google Analytics provides you with answers to almost all of your questions about the traffic on your website.
The insights provided give you practical ways forward for improving your site performance. Rather than a vague aim of improving traffic, you can have a more concrete objective.
There are many reasons why businesses choose to use Google Analytics. Some of the key benefits as below.
Improved understanding of website visitors
Google Analytics provides businesses with a comprehensive view of who their website visitors are, what they are looking for, and what drives them to the site. This information can be used to make informed decisions about the design, content, and functionality of the site to improve user experience and drive more conversions.
Increased conversion rates
Using Google Analytics you will have access to detailed information on the user journey, including where visitors are coming from, what pages they visit, and how long they stay. This information can be used to identify areas of the site that may be hindering conversion rates and make changes to improve the overall conversion rate.
Better marketing campaigns
Google Analytics presents data on the effectiveness of marketing campaigns, including which channels are driving the most traffic and what keywords are driving the most conversions. This information can be used to optimize marketing efforts and allocate resources more effectively.
You will have access to a wealth of data on the competition, including what keywords they are ranking for, what pages are most popular, and what geographic location they are attracting visitors from. This information can be used to gain a competitive advantage and stay ahead of the competition.
Increased return on investment (ROI):
By using Google Analytics to optimize the site and marketing campaigns, businesses can improve the overall ROI from their website and online marketing efforts.
Different versions of Google Analytics
Google Analytics Universal and Google Analytics 4 are two versions of Google’s web analytics service.
Google Analytics Universal, also known as GA Universal or GA classic, is the previous version of Google Analytics. It has been around for over a decade and is widely used by businesses of all sizes to track website traffic and analyze visitor behavior.
Google Analytics 4, also known as GA4, is the latest version of Google Analytics. It was introduced in October 2020 and is designed to provide a more comprehensive view of the customer journey, including offline and online interactions.
July 1 2023, Google will cease providing the GA Universal platform and GA4 will be the only Google Analytic platform. You need to make sure you have configured your website with GA4 and also start learning the tool as soon as possible. July 1 all of the data generated by GA Universal will disappear.
You should not expect to see the same reports in GA4 that were available in GAU since GA4 is based on a different measurement model. This is the biggest difference between the two platforms. GA4 uses the measurement model which is based on events and parameters whereas GAU uses the measurement model being based on sessions and pageviews.
In GAU, a session is a group of user interactions (hits) with a website which take place over a given timeframe. A session can contain multiple pageviews, events and eCommerce transactions. Contrasting that, Google Analytics 4 uses a measurement model based on events and parameters. The principle here is that any interaction can be captured as an event. As a result, all Universal Analytics hit types translate to events in GA4.
Thus, there are some important differences between GA4 and GAU and it’s essential that you understand these fully before you go about switching over to GA4. Below are some of the key differences between the two versions. Read further for a comprehensive list of differences.
Specific benefits of using Google Analytics
Google Analytics as a web analytics tool can help you grow your business to the next level. Whether you use GA as a passive or an active tool, you can always refer back to it to find and realize your performance in reality.
Install the tool on a new website and every now again, do a proper audit before investing a huge chunk of a marketing budget into online advertising.
It’s important to note that introducing data into your workflows and analytics strategies requires adjustment on how to deal with new data with older plans. In time you will realize that the more you know about specifics of a website through metrics, the more you can achieve with it.
Google Analytics provides businesses with a wide range of benefits, see below.
